I hear this phrase, “just a sprint tri” a lot or the comment, “I’ve only ever done sprints” and I want to point out saying “just” a sprint triathlon doesn’t make sense.  A sprint triathlon is a an opportunity to lay it ALL out there.  It is an endurance event.  Short course triathletes are amazing.  I am a long course athlete but when I try a sprint I really respect those who focus on that niche.  It’s really HARD to go all out like that with such intensity.  There’s no time or room for errors.  The race is efficient, precise and done at an intensity so challenging it is difficult to think!  There is no “just” about short course tri especially if you’re approaching it with the right attitude!  Sprints are challenging and respectable endurance events.  Some of my hardest race moments were in short course.
